Solving ‘the Uniform Issue’: Gender and Professional Identity in the Swedish Military

This article contributes empirical knowledge about the shifting ways in which Swedish Armed Forces (SAF) has articulated and addressed ‘the uniform issue’, that is, matters concerning servicewomen’s access to adequate uniforms other equipment, since 1980s. Drawing on analytical tools employed within post-structural policy analysis, we demonstrate how issue’ gone from being as a problem for servicewomen, be solved by SAF its pursuit become an attractive employer legitimate public authority. By shedding light been problematized women first were allowed serve all military positions, this also important insights into broader scholarly debates workplace discrimination, gender equality, gendered occupational identities work.
